Team Game

As a student in 7th grade, AdVENTURE, your elective is globaloria, or coding. You learn to code educational games using Adobe Flash: Actionscript 3.0 along with the help of globaloria. Globaloria is an “education technology company that works in partnership with K-12 schools to respond to high demand for innovative computing instruction models,” which is stated on one of their many websites. On that website they also state their mission to be, “ To Provide Computer Science Education For ALL. To Service with Passion and Excellence All Schools,  All Teachers, All Students, in All Zipcodes. To make Computer Science Education and STEM Learning and Teaching Approachable, Fun, and Inviting. To Increase Participation by Encouraging Diversity of Backgrounds, Knowledge Levels, and Implementation Models.”

Throughout the year, you create 3 games; a hidden objects game, an action game, and a team game. The game I enjoyed most is the final, team game. I learned so much more than just coding. For instance I learned about many immune cells (my team and decided on creating our educational game about Immunology and the immune system) and their functions. I also advanced a lot in coding, animating, drawing, and working with a team.

This game shows just how much I have improved from the beginning of the year. Thanks to globaloria, I went from almost not knowing what coding was, to, though I am definitely not an expert, recognizing specific functions and knowing how to code a full game. Because of this, game design is one of my favorite periods.
