To Kill a Mockingbird - News Page

One major book that the English class read this year was To Kill a Mockingbird. After many other projects on the novel, such as essays and worksheets, the 8th grade AdVENTURE students worked together to create a fictional "news page" that could be found at the time the book takes place; 1933 to 1935. Each students created multiple entries consisting of articles, news videos, crosswords, word searches, maps, and much more. Each piece has to do with the events and roles that occurred within the plot of To Kill a

Mockingbird  and showcase the class's literary skills. Personally, I produced a map of Maycomb, the fictional small town where much of the plot takes place. Using different symbols on Google Draw, I used the worded description of the town from the book and did my best to reproduce it with a physical illustration/map. Different structures in my map include roads/streets, the different family houses, courthouse, jailhouse, school, clock tower, different stores, and specific trees (some trees and their location played roles in the novel).

This represents some of the class's best work, as we worked as whole to produce this piece. I feel that because each one of the class members played a role in the completion of this project, the final result was of very high quality and quantity. Rather than each person creating a smaller, less great news page, the class worked together to produce a fantastic singular new page. The new page, in the form of a website, shows what each classmate is able to do, in addition to what the whole class is capable of.
